BEACON (26 October 06) - At about 2pm, a Beacon Police officer responded with his partner to investigate a suspicious vehicle in Parking Lot 5 of the Forrestal Heights Public Housing Projects. Shortly after arriving a shootout ensued between police and the suspect. One police officer received a direct hit to his chest, however was saved by his bullet-proof vest. Officers returned fire striking the shooter multiple times. On scene officers called for immediate assistance and fire/ems for the shooting.

Engine 33-12 was dispatched along with Beacon Volunteer Ambulance and Alamo EMS to provide medical support for the victims. Upon arrival units discovered the police officer was transported to St Luke's Hospital prior to arrival by another police unit. So companies provided ALS care to the suspect who sustained multiple gun shot wounds from the shootout.

During the investigation the area and sky were filled with news media. New York City's News 2, 4, 5, and 7 helicopters were above filming live shots as local and regional media was on the ground interviewing police and witnesses.
