BEACON (12 April 2007) - The city received a grant back in September 2005 of 200 smoke detectors and the city is now 200 smoke detectors safer. The New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH) and the National Smoke Alarm For Every Home (S.A.F.E.) Foundation both donated the smoke detectors to be installed in city residences. The department installed detectors in approximately 125 residences over the nearly two year period.

Smoke detectors are one of the most critical ways to prevent fatal fires. It is so important, that we even placed an ad on our main page of the website stating how critical it is, that more than 50% of all fatal fires are among the 5% of residences that do not have a working smoke dector. DO NOT FORGET to change your batteries at least twice a year, doing so will help ensure your safety so you don't become one of the statistics.
