BEACON (23 April 2007) - As companies were training at their Monday night truck checks the real one came in. At about 7:50pm, Dutchess 911 starting receiving calls from neighborhood residents that there was a working structure fire in the area of the Tallix Factory Complex and the abandoned lumber yard behind it which are located on the east end of Main Street. 911 immediately transmitted a full first alarm assignment and within minutes companies arrived at the scene. Upon arrival of Car 33-2 (Chief Lahey, Jr), he reported a fully-involved structure inside the rear of the abandoned lumber yard where the city took in a major multi-alarm fire years prior.

On arrival, companies found a fully involved vacant 10x25 construction trailer with numerous homeless persons on scene reporting they were staying in the trailer and that some may still be in it. Engine 33-13, acting 33-11, laid in a 5" supply line from Main Street to as close as it could get to the fire. Then companies stretched a 3" line with a wye the rest of the way to the fire. The companies then connected two 1 3/4" attack lines to the wye and knocked the fire down.

The fire took about 10 minutes to bring under control and companies then performed an extensive overhaul of the trailer. Companies turned up negative results for victims during the overhaul process. The fire is suspicious in nature and is under investigation by the city fire investigation unit.
