BEACON (7 Oct 01) - Early Sunday morning on October 7, 2001 at 12:18am, City of Beacon Fire Dept. along with the Beacon Volunteer Ambulance were dispatched to an unknown type fire in the area of 7 Summit Street near East Main Street. Upon arrival of 33-11, he confirmed a working fire on the second floor of the 2.5 story private dwelling and saw a female in a second floor window. As crews began a rescue attempt, the victim jumped out of the second floor window and sustained critical injuries. She was air lifted to Westchester Medical Center. A child was also located by interior search crews in a rear bedroom and was taken to Saint Lukes Hospital in critical condition. The child died a few days later in the hospital from his injuries. The fire was quickly knocked down with 2 hose lines and was confined to one bedroom. The investigation into the fire showed the origin to be electrical in nature and also accidental.
