BEACON (4 November 2007) - At around 2:30pm, city police were dispatched to the area of 13 South Cedar for a reported explosion heard in the area. Upon arrival, city police found an exploded device and another device which was still intacted. Engine 33-12 was than dispatched to assist the police department at the scene. Upon arrival of Engine 33-12, they found a soda bottle with what appeared to be aluminum foil and an unknown liquid inside it. At this time, Car 33-1 (Chief Jospeh), requested the County Haz-Mat team to the scene to secure the device.

Upon arrival of County Haz-Mat, they investigated the device and determined it to be a "Bottle Bomb" Improvised Explosive Device (IED), a type of home-made bomb with household materials. The team then rendered the device as safe and the scene was turned over to city police who are investigating the incident.

A similar incident had occurred a week prior in our sister city, City of Newburgh, located across the Hudson River from us: IED Explosions Rock Newburgh Streets.
