BEACON (13 November 2007) - November started as a busy month with three small fires that were brought under control before any serious damage was done. The first alarm was on November 7th, at about 7:30am. At that time Dutchess 911 received a call for a reported bathroom fire at 72 Tompkins Terrace. A full first alarm was transmitted to that address and upon arrival of Engine 33-12, they found nothing showing. Upon further investigation, companies found a small fire in the ceiling around a fan in the bathroom. Members quickly extinguished the fire with a water can and opened up the surrounding area to check for extension. Only minor extension in the area of the fan was noted and the scene was turned over to the property management. The fire is believed to be electrical in nature.
The second structure fire was transmitted on November 11th, at about 9:45pm at 555 South Ave. Near-by neighbors of the 100 x 200 3-story vacant industrial building saw what appeared to be a fire on the first floor. Upon arrival of Tower Ladder 33-45, they found nothing showing. Upon further investigation, companies found debris on fire on the floor of the first floor. Companies stretched one 1 3/4 inch attack line and quickly extinguished the fire. The fire is believed to be suspicious in nature possibly set by squatters living in the building.
The third fire was transmitted on November 13th, at 10:45am at 38 Davis St. Upon arrival of the companies, they found nothing showing. Upon further investigation, they found a small fire in the bathroom that was caused by a candle and out on arrival. Companies ventilated the structure of smoke and check for any extension, however the fire was confined to the area of origin.
