BEACON (13 December 2007) - A full first alarm assignment was transmitted at around 2pm for a smoke detector activation with a possible boiler fire at 61 Sycamore Dr. Upon arrival of Car 33-2 (Asst. Chief Lahey), he reported light smoke showing and requested a line stretched in for an active furnace fire. Upon arrival of the companies, they laid into a hydrant and established a water supply. They then stretched one 1 3/4" attack line to the furnace closet and quickly knocked down the fire.
Companies then opened up to check for extension and evacuated the smoke from the unit. The fire was confined to the utility closet in the 2-story 75' x 25' wood frame condominium building which contained 4 units. Glenham with Engine 43-11 was special called to Station 2 to cover the city. The fire has been determined to be in relation to the furnace in the room, however the exact cause is under investigation.
