BEACON (18 February 2008) - At around 4:30am a full first alarm assignment was transmitted for a heavily involved vacant house at 12 Mountain Lane. Upon arrival of Car 33-1, Chief Joseph, he reported a fully-involved 25 x 40 two-story wood frame house that was vacant due to a previous fire (Two Plus Alarm Dwelling Fire (14 July 2005) ). Soon after a second alarm was transmitted bringing Rescue 33-55 to the scene and Village of Fishkill Quint 42-12 as the FAST team. This also brought Glenham Engine 43-11 and Rombout Tower Ladder 62-45 in to cover the city.
Due to the street being at the highest elevation on the city's water system, companies had difficulty establishing a sufficient water supply to attack the fire. Glenham Engine 43-11, was special called to the scene above the second alarm to assist in setting up a water relay at a lower elevation. At this time Chelsea Engine 35-12 was also assigned to the assignment to replace the Glenham engine for station covers.
Once a water supply was established, one tower ladder pipe and a 2 1/2" Attack Line were used to knock down the fire. It took a little over an hour to establish a sufficient water supply and to knock down the fire. The building was a total loss and an excavator was called to the scene to knock down the remaining portion of the building.
The building was vacant and there were no reported injuries. The fire is still under investigation by the City Fire Investigation Unit.
