BEACON (22 April 2009) - At around 9:30am, City Police engaged in a high speed pursuit of a vehicle. The vehicle attempted to make a high speed turn at a T-Intersectiom at Cliff and DeWindt Street, struck a vehicle, and rolled over. When the vehicle rolled over, it ended up landing on the operators arm.
On Arrival of Rescue 33-55 and Engine 33-11, they assessed the incident and found the vehicle on top of the person. The companies quickly set up cribbing and two air bags to lift the vehicle off the person. Once the vehicle was lifted off the person, he was quickly assessed and packaged. During the patient assessment it was determined that the victim's arm was partially amputated. Due to the injury, the medic requested the victim medevaced to Westchester Medical Center.
The victim was ground transported to Memorial Park for air transport by State Police Life Guard 18. Village of Fishkill Quint 42-12 was special called to the park for the landing zone. In addition Glenham Engine 43-11 and off-duty Beacon personnel were called in to cover the city.
