BEACON (09 Dec 02) - On Monday, December 09, 2002 at about 12:30PM, the City of Beacon Fire Department and Beacon Volunteer Ambulance Corp. were dispatched to a possible structure fire on South Ave in the area of Newlins Mills Road. Upon arrival of City Car 9 (33-9), Career Lieutenant Dexter, found heavy fire throughout the 3-story 20x50 occupied multiple dwelling. He required a 2nd alarm upon arrival due to fire conditions and for covers to the city. An exterior operation was used due to heavy fire condition and live ammunition within the building. The fire was knocked down in about 1 hour and the entire house was gutted. Special Call Glenham with 1 engine to the scene for work. Additional mutual aid came from the Village of Fishkill and Chelsea fire departments to cover the city. A total of 3 firefighters suffered minor injuries from the fire.
