BEACON (28 FEBRUARY 2010) - With snow that started on Thursday, February 25th and continued until Saturday, February 27, 2010; Beacon received nearly 3 feet of heavy wet snow. The snow crippled the city knocking out power to nearly every building in the city and pulling down trees and wires everywhere. Many streets remained closed for days as Central Hudson with the help of crews from all over the north east assisted them in restoring power in the worst outage they have ever experienced.

Beacon Fire took in around 75 runs during the 3 day storm and eventually had to request mutual aid to assist with the numerous downed trees and to provide water tankers as no hydrants were assessable. The most serious calls included 3 partial building collapses, 1 full building collapse, and a 1 Month Old who died through the overnight at a residence without power.

Pleasant Valley provided manpower and Tanker 56-32 to stand-by in the city for 5 days due to no access to water. Roosevelt provided manpower and Air/Light Truck 63-83 and Utility 63-62 to assist in cutting up downed trees throughout the city for 2 days.
