BEACON (10 May 02) - On Friday, May 10, 2002, at about 7:30PM, City of Beacon Fire Department and Beacon Volunteer Ambulance were dispatched to an unknown type fire near Main Street and Ackerman Street. Dutchess 911 reported multiple calls being received for a building fire. Upon arrival of 33-9 (Career Lieutenant), he reported a large volume of fire coming from an old lumber company building and requested a second alarm. A master stream, two deck guns, and numerous large diameter hose was used to combat the fire. None of the 75 firefighters were injured battling the blaze. The fire took about an hour to control.
