BEACON (11 September 06) - Beacon firefighter side-by-side honored the victims of September 11th on Monday. The fifth year anniversary was held at the city's Patriot Garden Park located at Verplanck and Matteawan. The park established in 2003 is a memorial to 9/11 and the city's one victim of 9/11, Jupiter Yambem. With an actual section of metal from Tower Two of the World Trade Center as the memorial, members of the community encircled around the park to pay tribute.

During the attacks of 9/11, Beacon felt especially close being just over a hour from ground zero. During the days after the department donated a truck load of supplies to the FDNY firefighters, a few of which were also volunteer members of the department.
