BEACON (14 Feb 06) - Although it has been a slow year for fires, the city made two great saves in the first half of February.
The first one was a can job at Rombout and South Ave. A first alarm was transmitted on the 7th at about 7:30pm for a reported chimney fire. Upon arrival, companies
found an active chimney fire with minor extension into the private dwelling. In addition, every window was barred with metal bars, causing an additional hazard to the crews. The fire was extinguished with a can and one line was streched for precaionary reasons.
The second incident was on
the 14th at about 10:50am. At this incident, a first alarm was transmitted for a reported stove fire. Upon arrival of Engine 33-11 and Tower Ladder 33-45, units found smoke showing. One line was streched for precautionary reasons and the fire was knocked down by a can. The fire was confined to the stove and adjacent wall.
