BEACON (16 Aug 05) - At about 1AM, a first alarm was transmitted for an air conditioner fire at 8-12 Edgewater Pl. Upon arrival of Engine 33-12, fire was visible from a top floor apartment of a 3 story 100x50 apartment building. As the engine began to hook to a hydrant, the quickly spreading fire engulfed the entire apartment and was continuing to spread through the cockloft.

First due crews attempted to make a quick knock on the fire, but were pushed out by the fast spreading fire. At this time a second alarm was transmitted and heavy fire was throughout most of the top floor and cockloft, as well as through the roof. Also at this time Car 33-1 (Chief Joseph), pulled all members from the building and used Tower Ladder 33-45 to knock down the main body of fire.

Once the main body of fire had been knocked by the tower, crews reentered and extinguished the fire. The fire left about 20 people homeless and is still under investigation by the City Fire Investigation unit.
