 BEACON (20 May 04) - On May 20th at about 4:40AM a 1st alarm was transmitted for a structure fire with reported people trapped on 9 West Center Street. Upon arrival of Ladder 1 (33-45) and Car 1 (33-1), they found a 2-story wood frame private dwelling with fire out of almost every window and exposure problems. The chief immediately called for a 2nd alarm and the first due companies quickly controlled the exposure problems. The fire took about 1 hour to bring under control. The fire is still under investigation by the city fire investigation unit. Two of the occupants were seriously injured in the fire, one which jumped from the second story window and one from smoke inhalation.
