BEACON (23 JAN 04) - On January 23, 2004, the City of Beacon Fire Department and Beacon Volunteer Ambulance were dispatched for a reported porch fire at the corner of Church and Eliza. Upon arrival of Engine 2 (33-12) and Ladder 1 (33-45), they found heavy fire on the first floor of a two story private dwelling with numerous people on the porch roof and people attempting to evacuate the building. First due companies made numerous rescues, while a second alarm was transmitted by Car 1 (33-1). The fire was brought under control within a half hour and one occupant of the dwelling, a child, was killed in the incident.
