     The City of Beacon Fire Department is a combination department. That means it is made up of both full-time career firefighters as well as volunteer firefighters. Below explains how to become each of these positions:

     Volunteers are always needed in the department. Most of the personnel are comprised of these dedicated persons who serve the community at a moments notice. If you are interested in becoming one of your community's most valued assets then please read on:

       Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years old

• You have to reside within the Beacon City School District

• Must be willing to work as part of a team

• Have to be available for regular training sessions and meetings.

         Application Process

• Background Check / Application Period (4-8 weeks)

• Complete the following training courses within the first year of membership:
  • Firefighter I
  • CPR

     In order to become a career firefighter you must first take the Dutchess County Firefighter Civil Service Exam. Once you have done this you will be placed on the county's list. Residence of the City of Beacon who are on the list will be selected based on their score once there is a vacancy or addition to the career staff roster.
